This Privacy Policy explains how LeftoSense ("we," "us," or "the app") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use our mobile application and related services. LeftoSense is an AI-powered food waste reduction app that helps you assess visible food freshness, manage food inventory, find donation centers, and discover recipes. By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
We collect the following types of information: (a) Account information — when you create an account, we store your username and a PIN used for authentication. (b) Food photos — images you take or upload for freshness analysis and inventory tracking. (c) Scan and analysis data — results generated by our AI models, including freshness classifications, detected defects, and safety recommendations. (d) Food inventory data — names, categories, storage locations, and expiration dates for food items you save. (e) Location data — approximate or precise location used to find nearby donation centers, if you grant location permissions. (f) Usage data — app interactions such as scan frequency, streak counts, and feature usage, used for app improvement. (g) Support communications — information you provide when contacting us, including name, email, and message content.
We use your information to: (a) Provide core features — analyzing food photos, displaying freshness assessments, tracking inventory, finding donation centers, and generating recipe suggestions. (b) Maintain your account — authenticating your identity and managing your session. (c) Improve our AI models — aggregated and anonymized scan data may be used to improve the accuracy and coverage of our freshness analysis. (d) Provide support — responding to your questions and bug reports. (e) Send service notifications — alerts about expiring food and account-related updates. We do not use your personal information to send marketing emails unless you opt in.
When you scan a food item, the photo you submit is processed by our AI models to assess visible freshness characteristics. The photo and its analysis results are stored in your account so you can review them later in your scan history. We may use aggregated, de-identified scan data to improve our AI models and expand supported produce types. Individual photos are not shared publicly or with third parties. You can delete any scan or food item at any time, and deleting your account permanently removes all associated photos and analysis data.
If you grant location permissions, LeftoSense uses your device location to display nearby food donation centers such as food banks, shelters, and community fridges. Location data is used only for this purpose and is not stored on our servers unless you explicitly save a donation record. You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings; the donation-center feature will be limited, but all other app features will continue to work.
Your data is stored on secure cloud servers managed by our hosting provider. We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest. Account PINs are stored using one-way hashing and are never stored in plain text. Access to production data is restricted to authorized personnel with a legitimate need. While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Food items, scan history, and saved recipes remain in your account until you delete them or delete your account. If you are inactive for an extended period, we may retain your data for a reasonable time before automatically removing it. Support communications are retained for up to 12 months for quality and follow-up purposes.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can delete individual food items, scan records, and saved recipes directly within the app. To delete your entire account and all associated data, go to the Profile tab and select Delete Account — this permanently removes your food items, scan history, saved recipes, and account credentials. For additional data requests — such as exporting your data or requesting correction — contact us at support@leftosense.org. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.
LeftoSense uses the following categories of third-party services: (a) Cloud hosting — for data storage and application hosting. (b) AI and machine learning — for food image analysis and recipe generation. (c) Mapping and location — for displaying donation centers on a map. (d) Email delivery — for support communications and account notifications. These providers may process limited data necessary to perform their services and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments. We do not sell your personal information to any third party.
LeftoSense is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.
LeftoSense is available to users worldwide. If you are accessing the app from outside the United States, please be aware that your data will be processed on servers located in the United States. By using the app, you consent to this transfer of data. If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have certain rights under GDPR, including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
